Importing your logbook into Aviato is simple. This guide walks you through the import flow—from uploading your file to reviewing your mapped fields and applying smart rules. Once you complete your first import, Aviato saves your setup so future files from the same source process automatically.
1. Upload your logbook
Start by dropping your logbook file into the import window or clicking Upload to browse your files.
Aviato supports .txt and .pdf formats.
Once uploaded, Aviato reads the file and prepares your data for mapping.
2. Map your data
Aviato auto-detects the airline format and maps your columns to Aviato fields.
You can:
- Review each detected column
- Update fields that need correction
- See a live preview of your data
Unmapped columns will be clearly flagged so you can update them before continuing.
3. Set your rules
Choose how Aviato handles:
- Duplicates (Skip / Replace)
- Past entries
- Related records
These rules only need to be set once—Aviato will reuse them for future imports of the same format.
4. Review and confirm
Before importing, you’ll see:
- File name
- Column-mapping status
- Duplicate-handling settings
If everything looks correct, select Confirm & Import.
Aviato processes the import and gives you a full summary when it’s complete.

Smart seat-time rules
Aviato automatically applies seat-time logic based on the flight length and typical crew configuration.
Example:
HKG–LHR defaults to a 4-crew split at 50% block time.
Enriched data (coming soon)
Future imports will auto-fill details like:
- Verified block and flight times
- Runways used
- Route metadata
Learns your patterns
Aviato adapts as you import more flights.
If you consistently fly Australia or Anchorage routes, Aviato predicts your typical crew pattern and applies it automatically.
FAQs
What file types does Aviato support?
Aviato currently supports .txt and .pdf logbook files, including Cathay Pacific text-file exports. More formats are being added.
How does Aviato map my columns?
Aviato automatically detects and assigns each column to the correct logbook field. You can review and adjust any field before import.
How does seat-time logic work?
Aviato uses route length and typical crew numbers to apply the correct PIC/SIC/P2X split. For example, long-haul HKG–LHR sectors default to four crew and 50% block-time allocation.
Can I override seat-time after import?
Yes. All seat-time values can be edited after the import is complete.
How are duplicates handled?
During import, you choose whether to skip duplicates, update them, or import everything as new entries.
Does Aviato enrich flights with extra data?
Enriched data—such as accurate flight times, routes, and runway information—is coming soon.
Will Aviato remember my preferences?
Yes. Aviato learns your flying patterns (e.g., common routes, typical crew numbers) and applies these automatically in future imports.
